Personality and attitude are very important in child modelling. A quirky, happy child with character can sell a product just as well as a well-groomed, well-poised model would.
The temperament of the child model is the key to their success. It is essential that any child model be co-operative and good natured, and it is imperative that the child is easy to direct and quickly at ease around strangers and under the spotlight. A shoot can last for hours so it can be difficult for children to remain attentive and interested.
There are many strict laws that are designed to protect the interests of the child and keep the guardian in control of the child's modelling career. These laws are in place to ensure that children are not exploited and do not miss out on any vital education. Licenses are required to permit any child under sixteen to work, and strict guidelines are in place concerning the amount of hours that children can work for.

How do I maintain a healthy body and mind in a highly competitive industry?
It is a challenge to keep this balance when it seems you are being judged by others all the time. Try to find some balance in your life by keeping in touch with friends who are not in the 'industry', and spending time on other activities. Having interests outside of modelling will help too. Being self critical, judging yourself harshly, or paying too much attention to the opinions of others can all get you down. Think about how you could help be positive towards other people- giving them compliments, or encouragement because what goes around comes around too.
