Kate Moss’ Small show

Kate Moss' Small showKate Moss and Lily Allen were among a host of stars who watched James Small’s debut menswear collection yesterday (24.02.10).

The supermodel and the ‘No Fear’ singer came out to support the up-and-coming designer as he showcased his Ground Control creations at Somerset House as part of London Fashion Week.

Kate was sat next to ex-boyfriend Jefferson Hack – father of her seven-year-old daughter Lila Grace – as James impressed the audience with the collection, which is described as “classic tailoring for the young man with a modern element”.

Speaking of the show, he later told BANG Showbiz: “I was really pleased with it and just glad everyone made it.”

Guests then went on to an exclusive Playstaion3 SingStar after party at Circus in nearby Covent Garden.

To celebrate his successful debut, James and his father got up and entertained the crowd with a version of David Bowie’s ‘Let’s Dance’ on the SingStar.

Other guests at the party – which was curated by Fran Cutler – included Mark Ronson, Jarvis Cocker and Alexa Chung.

Leona Lewis wants ethical outfits

Leona Lewis wants ethical outfitsLeona Lewis admits it’s a “challenge” to find ethical clothing.

The ‘Happy’ singer – who is a strict vegetarian – refuses to wear any animal products and as a result struggles to find suitable outfits so is looking forward to launching her fashion line to make it easier.

She said: “I’m trying to make that happen as soon as I can. It’s a challenge – mostly with shoes – as I don’t wear any leather and am very ethical about what I wear. I love wearing Stella McCartney, but one day I hope to have to my own line of ethical clothes and accessories.”

Despite her difficulties, Leona is a huge fashion fan and loves getting “creative” with her look.

She told vogue.com: “I really enjoy fashion and I love being creative. I work with a couple of stylists but I love fashion so am always looking online and in magazines for inspiration. I have so much fun working with my hair, make-up and styling team – we are always laughing. I do get a bit nervous though as I start having to get in the car, but once I’m on the carpet I really enjoy myself.”

Lady Gaga’s Armani tour

Lady Gaga's Armani tourLady Gaga is teaming up with Giorgio Armani for her world tour.

The Italian designer has created some bespoke costumes for the ‘Monster Ball’ concerts, which will stay true to the ‘Poker Face’ singer’s eccentric style.

In a statement, the fashion house said: “We hear Lady Gaga’s music everywhere we go, it is like a soundtrack of our times. In addition to her formidable songwriting skills, she is a modern fashion phenomenon.”

One of the outfits is a stunning hooded one-piece with a lobster-like effect on one sleeve while another is a sparkly blue body suit with pointed shoulders.

Gaga recently revealed she felt “honoured” when Armani agreed to dress her for the Grammy Awards.

They created custom pieces for her to wear on the red carpet and during her performance at last month’s prestigious ceremony, including a lilac and silver space age, solar system-inspired stiff-skirted gown.

She said: “I am honoured to be wearing Armani this evening. The series of pieces Mr. Armani created for me are truly iconic; they represent not only beautiful fashion, but my spirit and essence as an artist. Mr. Armani is a fashion legend, and tonight would not have been the same without his touch, and his wonderful team.”

Claudia Schiffer’s bespoke clothes

Claudia Schiffer's bespoke clothesClaudia Schiffer doesn’t wear tight clothes when she’s pregnant.

The 39-year-old supermodel – who has children Caspar, seven, and Clementine, five, and is now expecting her third with husband Matthew Vaughn – likes to buy normal clothes and have them altered so they don’t cling to her.

She said: “I’m not the sort of person who likes to wear tight clothes when I’m pregnant, but I’m not a fan of maternity dresses either, so my advice would be to get things a few sizes bigger and have them tailored to fit.”

However, she does like to take care of herself by eating healthily and using natural skin products on her stomach so she doesn’t get stretch marks.

She added: “During my first pregnancy, I started to eat organically and healthily because that was the first time I actually thought about what I was putting in my body. I’m still doing that today and I’m also just taking it easy, not working out too much, just enjoying this time in my life.

“I do like to put a lot of cream on my tummy, as long it’s natural. I think it really works to help stretch marks and make the skin really nice and soft.”

Alexander McQueen’s Paris preference

Alexander McQueen's Paris preferenceAlexander McQueen preferred doing his fashion shows in Paris to London.

The British designer – who was found dead at his home earlier this month – gave an interview to a magazine just six days before his tragic death, in which he spoke about the French capital having more prestige when he showcased his creations.

He told Matches magazine: “I love the heritage of the design houses and the fact that not just anyone can put on a show.”

When making his clothes, McQueen said he always put his customers wants and needs first.

He said: “There has to be a balance between your mental satisfaction and the financial needs of your company. But I always remember that it’s the fantasy, the artistic side, that makes customers want to buy the straightforward black pants.”

McQueen – who was born in London’s East End – was named British Designer of the Year on four occasions between 1996 and 2003 and made clothes for a whole range of high-profile stars, including Britain’s Prince Charles.

He was also awarded a CBE as well as being named International Designer of the Year at the Council of Fashion Designer Awards.

Since his death, a host of stars – including Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss and Victoria Beckham – have paid tribute to him, while Lady Gaga dedicated her performance at last week’s BRIT Awards to him.

Madonna fan Naomi Campbell

Madonna fan Naomi CampbellNaomi Campbell’s style icon is Madonna.

The supermodel – who won the Outstanding Contribution at this week’s Elle Style Awards – admires the ‘Material Girl’ singer’s fashion sense and her ability to reinvent herself time after time.

She said: “I think my style icons are people that reinvent themselves – they come back with a different look, a different vibe, a different sound and Madonna is definitely one of those people.

“It’s just amazing to watch her through all these decades-she just keeps coming back.”

Naomi – who received the award in recognition of her 25-year career and her work with safe pregnancy charity The White Ribbon Alliance (WRA) – also revealed she is a huge fan of Lady Gaga’s unique look.

She told people.com: “She’s definitely a big style icon for everyone, and it’s made everyone go a bit more edgy with their fashion.

“I think Lady Gaga is extremely talented-she is a composer, a pianist, she’s an opera singer and she does classical music too. I think we haven’t even seen her talent yet.”

Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie smell

Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie smellSarah Jessica Parker’s new scent is a “snapshot of Carrie Bradshaw”.

The ‘Sex and the City’ actress – who plays Carrie in both the TV series and movies – says her latest fragrance, SJP NYC, was designed as a homage to a vision of her character.

She explained at its launch at New York’s Sweetie Pie restaurant: “What I really wanted to do was capture an image, a snapshot in my head of Carrie Bradshaw, that sort of freeze-frame of her walking down any New York City street at an idyllic time of year in a floral-print dress on her way to meet somebody or to do something, or surrounded by her women friends.

“You can go anywhere with that, because we live in a fragrant city,”

Sarah also said she was surprised when the ingredients for the fragrance came together, as it is concocted of scents – wild strawberry with gardenia and vanilla – she wouldn’t usually choose.

She added: “What we arrived at was very surprising to me because it’s not notes that I generally cotton to – but I love it.”

SJP NYC comes in a multi-print bottle inspired by the custom-designed Oscar de la Renta dress Sarah wears in the ad campaign for the fragrance.

Burberry goes 3-D

Burberry goes 3-DBurberry held a worldwide 3-D fashion show yesterday (23.02.10).

The British fashion label put on their real catwalk show in London, while streaming it live to audiences in New York, Tokyo, Paris, Los Angeles and Dubai, who all wore special glasses to see the clothes in 3-D.

Christopher Bailey, the chief creative officer of Burberry, said: “We are very excited we are hosting the first ever truly global fashion show.

“This unprecedented event will enable people to experience the energy and atmosphere of this show from around the world.

“3-D technology will bring our global audience into the London show space allowing them to see the colours and fabrics, to hear the music and to be a part of that moment when it all finally comes together.”

While invited guests watched worldwide, a host of Hollywood stars and fashionistas were seen on the front row of the show, including Kate Hudson, who sparkled in a green sequined dress and Claire Danes, who looked sleek and smart in a traditional trench coat.

Also at the event was US Vogue editor Anna Wintour, who caused a stir wearing a fur-trimmed belted coat.

Kimberley Walsh happy with curves

Kimberley Walsh happy with curvesKimberley Walsh likes the way she looks.

The Girls Aloud singer is often held up as an example of a ‘curvy girl’ but claims not to mind because she’s happy with her appearance.

The singer revealed to Britain’s OK! magazine: “When it’s all like ‘curvy Kimberley’ it could go either way, you could start thinking, are they saying fat? But luckily I’m glad I look the way I do.

“I’ve always been like that so it’s not exactly a surprise to me!”

But the 28-year-old beauty does admit having to keep an eye on what she eats in order to keep her sexy curves in check.

She confessed: “If I’m keeping an eye on things I’ll have cereal for breakfast, a salad for lunch with chicken or tuna, and then at night something like fish and broccoli – no carbs.

“I also have a friend who trains me, otherwise I wouldn’t do it. I used to go to a gym but people would come up when I was running and I’d be like, ‘I can’t physically speak at the moment.’ “

Lindsay Lohan’s design therapy

Lindsay Lohan's design therapyLindsay Lohan finds designing clothes “therapeutic”.

The ‘Mean Girls’ actress – who has her own fashion line 6126 – loves creating outfits as it gives her the opportunity to express herself.

She said: “Fashion is something that’s so expressive in so many ways – within film, within music, within daily life. It expresses how you feel that day and the character you’re playing. I really appreciate and respect it. It’s something that’s not only a hobby of mine, but it makes me feel good. It’s really therapeutic for me, actually – the designs.”

However, Lindsay – who was forced to deny rumours she was blacklisted from New York Fashion Week and suffered the embarrassment of her designs for fashion house Emanuel Ungaro getting panned by critics – admits being associated with her can have negative consequences.

The 23-year-old star – who has been in rehab three times – told America’s OK! magazine: “I’m the first to say that in certain situations, my name will cheapen things because that’s what people have made of it.”
