Summer hair trends

model advice blogWith lace set to be a huge clothing trend in coming months, for those wanting to keep up with the fashion brigade, a demure colour palette will work best for the hair.
According to Creative Colour Director for HOB Salons, Christel Lundqvist – who was named 2008 British Colour Technician of the Year – blonde highlighted crops and soft powdery pastel shades ranging from beige and vanilla to pink champagne and lavender are all key.
And for once, there’s a colour to suit everyone as the influence of the street vibe on the catwalk means statement colours including shot pink, fusion coral, and rich, glossy terracotta are set to dominate, but will have a softer feel than last season’s pop-art shades.
Good news too for fans of the blunt fringe as they’re making a comeback, but this time around they’ll need to be gently weaved into the hair as relaxed styling is the vibe for summer 2010.
To be completely bang-on-trend, those with long locks should get their hair cut into a choppy bob as short styles are back with a vengeance, says 2009 British Hairdresser of the Year, Akin Konizi – who is the International Creative Director for HOB Salons.
The classic bob has been revoked, with less focus less on rigid structured styles, and more on romantic curls which incorporate texture into the hair.
Stylist Sean Dawson said the short textured hair seen on the catwalk creates ‘a veil of wispiness to produce a light reflecting halo’.
Accessories are huge for the season as well, so intricate braids, modern twists, twirls and coils will also add structure to otherwise loosened hair.
Decadence is the way to go, don’t be afraid of adding embroidered lace, flowers, feathers, bronze hair bands and hair slides to the classic up do either.

Donatella Versace wants exciting models

donatella versace model advice blogDonatella Versace believes the fashion world is desperate for more exciting supermodels.
The designer admits the current bunch of beauties lack the personality and egos of their predecessors and wants someone to break the mould.
She told LOVE magazine: ‘There is not enough ego! Now is a bad moment. They are like robots. Now we need something. We need a special personality. We need to feed the egos of these girls. Somebody like Kristen McMenamy who had a huge ego. Beautiful.’
Donatella says she enjoyed working with the 90s supermodels – who included Kate Moss, Linda Evangelista and Kristen – because of the entertainment they brought to the fashion world.
She said: ‘When a new girl came along, oh my God, it was like a war. Like Kate, she was 16 the first time I booked her for Avedon, and she was put among all of these monsters, these big girls like Linda and Kristen. And she was just 16. She was like this, ‘Can I go out and buy cigarettes?’ ‘No, sit there – I will get you cigarettes!’ ‘

Dannii Minogue’s Marks campaign

danii minogue model advice blogDannii Minogue has become the new face of Marks and Spencer.
The Australian beauty has signed a contract with the British high street chain and will follow in the footsteps of Myleene Klass, Twiggy and Erin O’Connor by fronting their new campaign.
The news follows weeks of rumours linking Dannii – who recently announced she was expecting her first child and is also launching her own clothing range – to the job.
She will be joined in campaigns by Brazilian supermodel Ana Beatriz Barros, British TV presenter Lisa Snowdon and singer VV Brown, who is famed for her eccentric dress sense.
Twiggy and Myleene – who have both appeared in numerous adverts for the famous chain – will again return for another campaign.
Although Dannii will be looking forward to appearing in the adverts – which launched in the UK next month – she recently revealed she isn’t a fan of the High Definition monitors they used on UK talent show ‘The X Factor’, for which she is a judge.
The 38-year-old star said: ‘Can we talk about the horror of HD. The monitors they use on ‘The X Factor’ are horrendous. You can see every pore on those kids faces, and I think, ‘S**t – they’re 16, what must I look like?’ ‘

Lily Allen’s fat mirror

lilly allenLily Allen suffers from ‘body dysmorphia’.
The ‘Not Fair’ singer – whose weight has fluctuated over the years – always thinks she she’s fat when she looks in the mirror and compares herself to overweight ‘Pop Idol’ winner Michelle McManus, who once tipped the scales at 322lbs.
Lily said: ‘Ask me, What do you see when you look in the mirror in the morning?’ and I’ll be like, ‘Someone who is more overweight than I actually am.’
‘It’s body dysmorphia. I honestly think I look like Michelle McManus or something.’
Lily also hit out at the fashion world saying they promote unhealthy lifestyles in a bid for everyone to be slim.
She told LOVE magazine: ‘The reason the fashion world has embraced me is because I lost a stone-and-a-half last year. They probably wouldn’t have when I was heavier.
‘I’ve been on shoots where it’s been ‘Lunchtime! OK, Lily, do you want a cigarette?’ instead of eating lunch. Don’t make me feel guilty about the way I look.
‘Compare me to Kate Moss and all of those supermodels and, yes, I probably am on the podgy side. But in reality I’m fine.’
