Marc Jacobs’ celebrity ban

marc jacobsMarc Jacobs is banning celebrities from his upcoming show at New York Fashion Week.
The designer says he doesn’t want to see stylish A-listers taking up the sought-after seats at this week’s prestigious event because he thinks having them there is ‘boring’.
He revealed to the New York Post: ‘I’m not into the celebrity thing . . . like we used to. That’s boring.’
Jacobs also admitted he felt ‘awkward’ when Madonna came backstage after his show at last September’s Fashion Week because the pop superstar wasn’t invited.
He said: ‘She came backstage, and I was like, ‘What do you do with her now?’ Because it’s not like she was invited.’
While celebrities won’t be invited to the show, they could always watch it on the internet as Jacobs and Calvin Klein have announced they will be streaming their upcoming runway show on the web.
Rodarte and Alexander Wang are also following suit as designers realise they need to attract new customers.
A industry insider said: ‘The industry is really suffering right now, and there’s a need to reach a bigger audience in order to increase sales.
‘Having Fashion Week online makes these designers universal, which is a huge benefit to their lines.’

‘Difficult’ Kate Moss

calvin klein kate mossCalvin Klein claims Kate Moss was ‘difficult’ work with.
The US designer cast the supermodel in a series of campaigns in the 90s but revealed it wasn’t an easy time because she didn’t like her co-star Mark Wahlberg.
He said: ‘She is a great model, but it didn’t go too well. She didn’t like him at all. He was a pleasure. I have worked with so many women, great ones, and Kate was always difficult.’
Although Klein wasn’t a huge fan of the British beauty, she was recently described as a ‘fantastic’ model by renowned photographer Nick Knight.
Knight – who has shot the 36-year-old star on many occasions – said: ‘I’ve known Kate for many years and she’s a fantastic model. She can put a little black T-shirt on and make it look like the exact T-shirt you want to buy this season. And that’s a real skill – she understands the narrative in clothing, and expresses that perfectly. That’s her great skill.’

Naomi Campbell stays on the catwalk

naomi campbellNaomi Campbell has no intention to give up modelling.
The 39-year-old beauty – who was one of the 90s supermodels – wants to continue with her life on the catwalk because she still gets a thrill out of doing it.
She said: ‘I still love my day job. When I get asked, if I’m in the right part of the world then I love to do it. I like the adrenaline rush and the live aspect of it. It’s nice when it’s well received and I like helping out the designers if they want me there.’
As well as her modelling work, Naomi has been working hard on her charity campaigns and is currently putting the final touches to the Fashion For Relief show, which will raise cash for mothers and babies in earthquake-stricken Haiti.
She told vogue.com: ‘I don’t want to tell you yet who’ll be in the show, I like to keep the element of surprise – it’ll be great, unexpected people. People keep coming to the events because they know they’ll definitely get their money’s worth.’
The shows – which take place in New York today (10.02.10) and in London on February 18 – will feature established designers such as Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Alice Temperley and Stella McCartney as well as up-and-coming designers.

Mary-Kate Olsen’s fashion worries

Mary-Kate Olsen has sleepless nights about fashion.
The 23-year-old actress – who runs three clothing lines with her twin sister Ashley, The Row, Elizabeth + James and new junior range Olsenboye – says style is a huge part of their lives and she often worries about it.
Mary-Kate said: ‘I’m so crazy. I can look at something right now and say one thing about it.
‘I’ll go home, not be able to sleep, and have a completely different perspective in the morning.’
Ashley believes the pair’s designs work because they share ideas about what looks good.
She said: ‘I think we both find interest in the same things. We love fabric. We love fit. We love colours.
‘Fashion depends on the person. If you’re comfortable in it and feel good in it, that’s what people notice. For me, I just love beautiful things.’
She also revealed their brands are ‘intimate’ affairs, with only 15 people in the office.
She told the USA Today newspaper: ‘We have great partners and these great brands, but we really like to function in this very intimate environment. It’s really hands-on and it’s really organic.’
