Lindsay Lohan’s design therapy

Lindsay Lohan's design therapyLindsay Lohan finds designing clothes “therapeutic”.

The ‘Mean Girls’ actress – who has her own fashion line 6126 – loves creating outfits as it gives her the opportunity to express herself.

She said: “Fashion is something that’s so expressive in so many ways – within film, within music, within daily life. It expresses how you feel that day and the character you’re playing. I really appreciate and respect it. It’s something that’s not only a hobby of mine, but it makes me feel good. It’s really therapeutic for me, actually – the designs.”

However, Lindsay – who was forced to deny rumours she was blacklisted from New York Fashion Week and suffered the embarrassment of her designs for fashion house Emanuel Ungaro getting panned by critics – admits being associated with her can have negative consequences.

The 23-year-old star – who has been in rehab three times – told America’s OK! magazine: “I’m the first to say that in certain situations, my name will cheapen things because that’s what people have made of it.”

Carey Mulligan refused Wintour advice

Carey Mulligan refused Wintour adviceCarey Mulligan won’t take fashion advice from Anna Wintour.

The 24-year-old star admits the formidable US Vogue editor advised her to wear a short dress to the Oscars ceremony next month (07.03.10), but she ignored her style tip.

She said: “Anna said I should wear short for the Oscars. I was like, ‘No that is so not what I had in my head when I was six years old!’ ”

Carey, who has been nominated for the Best Actress Oscar for her role in ‘An Education’, claims she has yet to plan anything for the event.

She told people.com: “It’s beyond wild. I haven’t got a dress or speech planned. I haven’t got any of that stuff yet.

“It’s beyond crazy to be up against Meryl Streep. She is the best actor on the planet. So it is really hard not to be overawed. Meryl Streep is the queen!”

Discussing her appearance at the nominees luncheon, where she met all the other actresses vying for the prize – including Meryl, Sandra Bullock, Gabourey Sidibe and Helen Mirren – Carey says it felt like confirmation it was real.

She said: “You’re made to stand on this bank with all the other nominees like graduation, and are called up one by one to get your certificate. You just go, ‘Wow. I’ve actually got some written proof that this has happened!’ “

Alexa Ray Joel’s Prell role

Alexa Ray Joel's Prell roleAlexa Ray Joel has been named as the new face of Prell.

The 24-year-old star – daughter of ‘Piano Man’ singer Billy Joel and supermodel Christine Brinkley – will front a new campaign for the US hair care brand, following in the footsteps of her famous mother.

Alexa said: “I am so excited and honoured to be named the new face of Prell – especially following in the footsteps of my mother.”

The campaign will launch in the US later this year and will feature Alexa’s music.

Christine fronted the campaign in the 80s, shortly after she married Billy, who she is now divorced from.

The news comes two months after Alexa was taken to a New York hospital after reportedly taking a possible overdose of pills.

Following her release Alexa gave thanks to “everyone for their outpouring of love and support”.

Last August, she described herself on her MySpace page as “forgotten”.

She also revealed she hated dating and considered herself “terrible” at it.

Alexa – who split up from boyfriend Jimmy Riot twice in 2008 – wrote: “I HATE the game-playing! Can’t stand it.”

Kimberly Wyatt dyed her hair brown

Kimberly Wyatt's hair changeKimberly Wyatt dyed her hair brown after having her wisdom teeth taken out.

The singer – who found fame with the Pussycat Dolls – decided to have a complete image overhaul at the beginning of the year following a painful operation.

Talking about her former blonde locks, Kimberly said: “I had quite a new year. I had to get my wisdom teeth pulled out and I was in so much pain. Then I decided to change my diet to a more organic one. Any toxins I put in or on my body makes me react in a crazy way – my scalp was smelling, my skin was bad – so I decided to make a change. It was a new year, new me!”

Kimberly also revealed she tries to incorporate her “punk-rock” side into her everyday style.

She said: “I’d say I have a real punk-rock edge. So no matter how girlie I go, I try and incorporate things that stay true to my punk-rock side. So even if I’m wearing a flowy feminine dress, I’d throw a motorcycle jacket on and rock it out with hoop earrings, bangles and rings and things.”

Although she wears a lot of skimpy outfits on stage, Kimberly admits she’s not always happy with her looks.

She told new! magazine: “I’m like any girl. I wake up sometimes and don’t feel good about myself. I always nit-pick about things and sometimes I just have to look in the mirror and build myself up, and tell myself, ‘You know what? You’re fine! Stop putting yourself down. Be happy with what you have and just go out there and flaunt it.’ “

During the London ceremony, Kylie Minogue gave her sister Dannii the TV star award for her role as a judge on UK talent show ‘The X Factor’.

Dannii recently announced she was expecting her first baby with boyfriend Kris Smith and admitted she was struggling to find clothes to fit her.

Looking radiant in a yellow flowing Grecian-style Lisa Ho dress, she said: “I’ve just gone stage one with the wardrobe where no jeans fit. Can’t get any of them on and you buy jeans with stretchy bits at the front. The rest, I don’t even know how it works.

“I really don’t know how I’m going to approach any of it yet.”

Elle Macpherson’s flattering underwear

Elle Macpherson's flattering underwearElle Macpherson wants her lingerie to flatter every body shape.

The Australian supermodel – who has her own range of underwear, Elle Macpherson Intimates – accepts that women come in all different shapes and knows how important it is to have a good-fitting bra and knickers.

She said: “I’m conscious when I’m designing lingerie of the need to create for all different types of women, so that my designs enhance the proportions of a woman’s body. Most women want to make their hips look narrower and their breasts look bigger.”

The 46-year-old beauty – nicknamed ‘The Body’ – says she and her team spend a lot of time thinking about different body shapes and draws inspiration from her own experiences.

The mother-of-two told Fabulous magazine: “We create bras for all body types and cup sizes. I’ve just launched a range of D-G cups and it’s phenomenally successful. We also created a maternity line because I couldn’t find anything pretty, comfortable and practical on the market when I was breastfeeding my sons.”

Jo Wood’s DIY eyelashes

Jo Wood's DIY eyelashesJo Wood used to draw on her own eyelashes.

The 54-year-old star – ex-wife of Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood – admits she was such a huge fan of 60s model Twiggy she would do anything to look like her.

She said: “When I was a teen, Twiggy was my beauty inspiration – I even drew on eyelashes.”

Jo has her own range of cosmetics and skincare products – Jo Wood Organics – and is constantly testing out products.

She told Style magazine: “For my fragrance, I love the citrusy smell of Eau Sauvage by Dior; it reminds me of going out in my 20s. Making beauty products myself means I’m always trying out other organic brands, but mascara and lipstick are the only things I don’t buy organic. I have to use Mac Zoom lash and I love MAC lipsticks, the paler the better.”

Jo has previously revealed she was inspired to work on her collection after meeting a herbalist.

She said: “I was put on steroids for a perforated appendix. They were b****y awful! Then I met a herbalist who completely changed my life. And everything became organic – I was like, obsessed!

“My brother gave me this book which tells you how to make organic face oil and so on, and I turned my bathroom into a lab and got all these little brown bottles and funnels and then gave the oils to my girlfriends.”
