Marc Jacobs’ celebrity ban

marc jacobsMarc Jacobs is banning celebrities from his upcoming show at New York Fashion Week.
The designer says he doesn’t want to see stylish A-listers taking up the sought-after seats at this week’s prestigious event because he thinks having them there is ‘boring’.
He revealed to the New York Post: ‘I’m not into the celebrity thing . . . like we used to. That’s boring.’
Jacobs also admitted he felt ‘awkward’ when Madonna came backstage after his show at last September’s Fashion Week because the pop superstar wasn’t invited.
He said: ‘She came backstage, and I was like, ‘What do you do with her now?’ Because it’s not like she was invited.’
While celebrities won’t be invited to the show, they could always watch it on the internet as Jacobs and Calvin Klein have announced they will be streaming their upcoming runway show on the web.
Rodarte and Alexander Wang are also following suit as designers realise they need to attract new customers.
A industry insider said: ‘The industry is really suffering right now, and there’s a need to reach a bigger audience in order to increase sales.
‘Having Fashion Week online makes these designers universal, which is a huge benefit to their lines.’
