A male model at New York Fashion Week
New York may get its own menswear Fashion Week.
The city’s fashion week – which is held twice a year in February and September – currently only has a small section dedicated to male clothes and there is now a campaign to expand it.
Designer John Varvatos told WWD: ‘I’ve been a member of the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) for 10 years and we’ve been trying to figure out how to do that for 10 years. If we’re going to try it, we have a better shot today than ever before, because we have a bigger design contingent.’
Designers think the timing of the September shows are all wrong because it comes nearly three months after the menswear catwalks in Milan and Paris so think business could be improved.
Varvatos added: ‘The reality for us is the men’s market opens in Milan the week of June 20, and the New York shows aren’t until September.’
However, some believe an entire week is too much and think two days dedicated to menswear is sufficient.
Designer Robert Geller said: ‘I think it would be good to reserve the first two days of fashion week just for men’s wear and promote it as a separate event.’
New York-based designer Thom Browne recently revealed he is relocating to Paris because he thinks it will be more beneficial for his menswear label.

He said: ‘When it comes down to a commercial point of view, it’s important to be able to sell that early in the season. Most designers would rather have their show before selling. The selling season is so early, and the shows in Europe are in tune with it.’

Carrie Underwood's treat temptation
Carrie Underwood finds it hard to resist gorging on junk food when she’s touring.
The ‘Cowboy Casanova’ singer does her best to eat healthily and has to make a ‘conscious effort’ not to dine out in restaurants.
She said: ‘I think the hardest thing about what I do is eating healthy because we’re all over the place.
‘It’s fast food, there’s after-show food, you get pizza, whatever. I don’t do that. I don’t eat out ever.
‘Every once in a while I have a day off and I might go to a restaurant – but no after-show food and I keep my fridge stocked. It’s all about making a conscious effort. I don’t do anything crazy, but I definitely try to take care of myself.’
Carrie recently got engaged to ice hockey player Mike Fisher and as well as trying to stay in shape for her big day, she has also been thinking about how she’ll look.
She said: ‘I’m Southern. I like big hair and eyeliner. I want my wedding day to be me, so I’ll probably be rocking some big hair and some eyeliner.’

Beth Ditto designs again
Beth Ditto is launching another clothing range for Evans.
The Gossip singer – whose debut line was released last year to rave reviews – is teaming up the British high street store once more to create a new collection, which will cater for plus-sized women.
Talking about the new line an Evans spokesperson said: ‘It will be Victorian mixed with 80s punk, through to 40s vintage with a noughties modern edge.’
Beth wears plus-sized clothes herself and knows it’s important for larger women to be creative with clothes in order to flatter their body shape.
She has said: ‘I don’t understand all these women who say they feel betrayed by fashion. A piece of clothing can’t talk – it can’t tell you that you can’t have it – so really, you’re just telling yourself that.
‘You make yourself the victim, because if you want clothes that bad, then make them yourself. You have to get creative if you’re fat. I’m really good at turning a belt into a necklace, and I can always find a nice pair of earrings.’
The 29-year-old musician has also previously revealed she had been keen to design her own range as she has been customising outfits for years.
She explained: ‘In the 90s, when pedal pushers were in, I lived in Arkansas in America and it was 10 years behind in fashion, so my mom showed me how to make them myself by taking apart some jeans and stitching them from scratch.’

Nicola Roberts leaving the Gianmarco Lorenzi party
Nicola Roberts doesn’t think she’s ready to have her own clothing line.
The Girls Aloud star is currently in the process of launching her make-up range for pale-skinned girls, Dainty Doll, but has no plans to create a fashion collection because it would be undeserved.
Speaking at a party for luxurious footwear designer Gianmarco Lorenzi at his London store, Nicola told BANG Showbiz: ‘I don’t want to have a fashion range just because I can. Just because I am a celebrity doesn’t mean I should have a fashion range. I’m not qualified for it and real designers can do a much better job.’
Although she doesn’t want her own clothing range, Nicola also wouldn’t have the time because she’s so involved in her cosmetic line.
She said: ‘I never realised how much work goes into doing something like this. It should be ready to be launched later this year and I’ve been involved in every stage of the process and it’s something I’m really proud of. But it’s a lot of hard work, especially as I want to get it just right.’

Jennifer Lopez has been named Style Icon of the Decade.
The singer-and-actress – famed for her sophisticated and well-groomed look – was honoured at a party hosted by magazine US Weekly, where tribute was paid to her fashion sense.
Jennifer said: ‘The best part of the night was winning this award!’
Her friend, actress Leah Remini, says Jennifer – who attended the bash with husband Marc Anthony – was a worthy winner.
She told Us Weekly: ‘Jennifer is fearless when it comes to fashion, and she is always beautiful and always takes a risk. She doesn’t care what people think.’
Leah also says she relies on Jennifer for fashion advice, explaining: ‘I always say, ‘Jen, what do you think?’ ‘
Jennifer is often noted for her style and earlier this year her face was featured on the cover of a beauty book.
The stunning star was snapped especially for make-up artist Scott Barnes’ book ‘About Face’ which is based on how to transform yourself and look like a film star.
Jennifer has worked with the beauty mogul for over 10 years and he even travelled with her when she worked on her latest movie, ‘The Back-up Plan’.

Oprah Winfrey was inspired by Michelle Obama’s style to make a business investment.

The talk show host was so impressed when she saw the US First Lady wearing an outfit – which consisted of a cardigan, sweater and skirt – from affordable American store J.Crew, she decided to become an investor in the firm.
She said: ‘The very first time I saw the First Lady, even before she became the First Lady, wearing J. Crew – full disclosure here – I went and bought some J.Crew stock and that was a very good decision.’
Speaking to J. Crew executive creative director Jenna Lyons on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’, the 56-year-old star says she can’t get enough of the store’s clothes and shoes.
She said: ‘I’m wearing J. Crew head-to-toe and the thing that excites me the most – I didn’t know you guys did shoes!’
Oprah isn’t the only star to have been inspired by Michelle’s style.
Singer-turned-fashion designer Victoria Beckham recently revealed she would love to create a dress for her because she’s such a ‘strong woman’.
Victoria – whose clothing lines have won widespread praise – said: ‘I would love to dress Mrs. Obama absolutely absolutely absolutely! I just think she’s incredible and she’s a very strong woman and she’s beautiful.’

Bruce Willis is releasing his own fragrance.

The ‘Die Hard‘ actor has signed a deal with German company LR Health + Beauty Systems to create a men’s scent, which is due out in July.
Tilo Ploger, chief operating officer of the firm, told WWD: ‘The Bruce Willis scent will be extremely masculine and – starting from ingredients through to design – embodies every individual feature of the Hollywood star: strong, self-confident, consistent.’
Bruce, 55, is the latest in a long line of stars to bring out their own scent.
Jennifer Lopez, Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss and Sarah Jessica Parker all have a signature fragrance as do Britney Spears and Beyonce Knowles.
However, one celebrity who won’t release a scent is John Mayer as he thinks it will smell like ‘sausage and sleep’.
The ‘Gravity‘ hitmaker said: ‘I’m not diversifying in terms of selling anything. I’m not selling ‘John Mayer: the cologne’. If I did it would just smell like sausage and sleep. I don’t look at my fans and think, ‘Wow, they really like what I do musically. Imagine if I could get $60 more out of them.’ Who out there really foes, ‘You know what, I just f**king love perfumes. I always have since I was a kid. If I weren’t a pop singer, I’d be a perfumier.’? At some point I may turn into an a*shole, but right now I just peddle a CD for $15 every two years.’

Sarah Jessica Parker dressed ‘like the Kennedys‘ when growing up despite coming from a poor family.

The ‘Sex and the City‘ actress says although she has a humble background, her mother strived to dress her and siblings as well as she could by buying ‘flawed’ dresses.
Sarah said: ‘For the early part of my life I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. We had no money. But we had this factory called Polly Slenders where my mother could go and get flawed dresses, so we were dressed like the Kennedys.
‘That’s how I started learning about clothes. I didn’t have access to clothing the way I did over the course of my tenure over at ‘Sex and the City‘, but I knew what was beautiful.’
Sarah recently starred in a Vogue photo shoot and told how she was astounded how the magazine’s editor Anna Wintour was able to secure a particular dress for the pictures.
Speaking at the shoot, she said: ‘There was a dress from the Dior show in Paris, and Anna pulled it – as only Anna can do – she said, ‘I need this in New York City’, and low and behold it arrived, it’s one of those indescribable Galliano dresses.’
