One of the main points it highlights is the fact that household names and original ‘supermodels’ such as Cindy Crawford would potentially be considered plus-size by today’s standards thanks to their gorgeous curves.

One of the statistics states:

“Twenty years ago the average fashion model weighed 8% less than the average woman. Today, she weighs 23% less.”

At MA we ask whether this reflects more on shrinking models, or the increase in size of the average woman in the last 10 years (which the press is constantly telling us is a growing issue). We suspect it is a combination of the two and the question needs to be asked why does society view plus-size as unhealthy and thin as beautiful, when thin doesn’t always equal healthy and big can be beautiful.

Posing the question ‘What’s wrong with our bodies?’, PLUS Model Magazine brings to the fore the contemporary trend towards a thinner ‘ideal’ and society’s need to question this and accept, even demand, more diversity to be represented in the fashion industry.

 The UK’s recent wet and windy weather is no friend to our hair…. we leave the house looking perfectly polished for our first day back at work after the festive season only to arrive looking disheveled and windswept! Model Advice’s resident celebrity hairstylist, Stuart Phillips, shares his tips for our winter worn hair….

Rain, wind, freezing temperatures, and not to mention the dreaded central heating, all of these can have a devastating effect on your hair. Heating pulls moisture out of the air and it will do the same to your hair and skin. Like your skin your hair needs to be rehydrated with a moisturising treatment. It does not matter what type of hair you have, the harsh wintery elements will turn even the most lustrous of locks in to a verifiable birds nest.

To tackle dry and damaged tresses, use a deep-conditioning treatment such as Kerastase Nutridefense at least once a week during winter to bring your winter-worn hair back to life.

Top Hair Care Tips

• Once a week, deep condition your hair to leave it ultra soft and super strong. Apply the deep conditioner all over damp hair and put hair in a shower cap or towel. Leave it on your hair for 10 minutes and then rinse thoroughly. All products are different so make sure to check the instructions before using.

• Take advantage of the steam from a nice hot bath to further increase the effectiveness of the product.
