Sarah Jessica Parker’s Halston offer

Sarah Jessica Parker admits she couldn’t turn down her role with Halston.

The ‘Sex and the City‘ actress – who is regarded as one of the most stylish women of her generation – became a fashion executive at Halston Heritage, the archive-inspired secondary line of the label, earlier this year and says it was an offer she had no choice but to accept.

She said: ‘There was every reason to say no, and there were very compelling reasons to say yes. It’s an exciting time at that company. It has a wonderful legacy, and I couldn’t say no, and I’m figuring it out.’

Sarah says she has been in awe of the fashion house ever since her first visit to New York in 1977.

The 45-year-old star – who now lives in the fashion-conscious city -   said: ‘It was 1977 in New York City, and you couldn’t be alive and not know the name Halston.’

The mother-of-three – who is married to actor Matthew Broderick – admits her new role means it will be a struggle to balance work and motherhood but is sure she will cope.

She told America’s Vogue magazine: ‘Does it scare me? Am I intimidated? Am I challenged? That’s kind of the way I’ve always made decisions ‘Luckily, the Halston offices are about a 10 minute walk from my house.’

Olivia Palermo’s fashion graduation

Olivia Palermo felt she had joined a ‘fashion clique’ when she got her first Hermes Birkin bag.

Olivia Palermo

The New York-based socialite was thrilled when she received the prestigious handbag – which is favourite of Victoria Beckham - as she knew she had made it.

She said: ‘It’s a cliche, but I remember when I got my first Hermes Birkin. It was such a pivotal moment – especially living in New York – to have received it. It was like joining a fashion clique and finally becoming one of the tribe. While I use it now occasionally, it always reminds me of how I’ve progressed stylistically and how cyclical fashion is.’

The 24-year-old beauty   – who has launched her own jewellery line with Roberta Freymann – is a huge accessories fan as she believes they are what make an outfit.

She told vogue.com: ‘I can’t live without my YSL Tribute heels and my Ray-Ban Wayfarers. Everybody thinks it’s the clothing that makes an outfit, but more often than not it’s the accessories.’

Olivia is very into her fashion and likes a variety of designers because they all bring something different.

She said: ‘There are so many, but several have impacted me directly or shown me how to think about fashion in different ways. Emerging brand Bensoni really captures my feminine and playful side, while Victoria Beckham’s collection is elegant for cocktails or evening events. When Mr. Valentino was still designing he truly understood what makes a woman look beautiful. I feel that Rachel Roy and Matthew Williamson get that too with their proper and bohemian looks, respectively.’

Thom Browne’s Paris hopes

Thom Browne believes he will be more successful once he moves to Paris.

Thom Browne

The US designer’s menswear label is currently based in New York and despite making a big name for himself there, he thinks relocating to the French capital will be more beneficial.

He said: ‘We’re focusing on growing internationally as a collection brand. Showing in Paris opens up the world a lot more. Also, Paris is the best city for understanding innovation and provocation. And when it comes down to a commercial point of view, it’s important to be able to sell that early in the season. Most designers would rather have their show before selling. The selling season is so early, and the shows in Europe are in tune with it.’

However, Thom admits moving to Paris will have its difficulties because he’ll be under more time pressure.

He told WWD: ‘It means getting the collection done two months earlier, which isn’t easy. And even sooner, actually, because we have to get everything and everyone over there. It’s going to be a big couple weeks in June. The Gamme Bleu show will be five days before. We will use the same show producer we use here, so it’s comfortable in that regard, but there are big differences between the cities to navigate, so it’s good to have the right resources.’

Liam Gallagher wants Pretty shop

Liam Gallagher hopes to open shops for his Pretty Green label in London, Tokyo and New York.

The former Oasis rocker is currently selling his menswear line through department stores in the UK and internationally through his website – with plans to expand to New York retailers this autumn – but his main aim is to set up dedicated shops for the brand.

Liam said: ‘The main thing is to try to get our own little store, our own little shop out here at some point, if all goes well.

‘We’re looking at a place in London - and Tokyo would be a good place because we have a bit of a fan base out there, a lot of people are buying from out there.

‘And definitely New York, if you do one in Tokyo, you got to do one in New York, yeah?’

He also confirmed the first retailer in New York to sell his range of T-shirts, polo shirts and accessories will be the Any Old Iron shop in the city’s Lower East Side area.

He added to website live4ever.uk.com: ‘I’m easy I’ll put it anywhere. I’m not that precious about where it goes, you know what I mean?’

Liam also talked about his launch of a less expensive range of Pretty Green clothing, but said he will never compromise the quality of his clothing for price.

He added: ‘We’re doing a green label, but I don’t want to do a whole collection of cheap, not so good gear.

‘You’re either doing good gear or not so good gear. There’s no point in having a split personality, you know what I mean? I don’t expect everyone to be able to afford it but you get what you pay for, you know what I mean? But we are definitely doing a cheaper version of still very good gear.’

Pretty Green‘s clothing can be ordered online at www.prettygreen.com.
