Makeup emergency quick fixes!

We’ve all been there – had too much fun at the Christmas party and went to bed with your makeup still on – waking up late, rushing to get ready, and not checking the mirror before you dash out the door. Our resident beauty and makeup expert, former model and celebrity makeup artist Sarah Jagger, is on hand to tackle all your beauty disasters with some essential last minute tips to prevent those dreaded lipstick-teeth and smudged mascara!

  • Flaky mascara

Think about how long have you had your mascara? If it’s starting to flake; it may be that you’ve had it too long and it’s high time for a new one. 3 months is the maximum that you should keep your mascara to prevent bacteria spreading from the tube to your eyes. For a fabulous, non-flake mascara, try Blinc, £18.50, which coats every individual lash with incredible staying power. If you’re out and about and notice that your mascara has flaked, take an eye shadow brush dipped in translucent powder and brush away the flakes. This will take moisture out of the skin so that the particles don’t smear.

  • Panda eyes

Smudged, smeared and running eye makeup occurs when the skin beneath your eye heats up and the moisture from your skin melts the mascara, eyeliner or eye shadow. Try using a long wearing concealer beneath the eyes like Estee Lauder’s Double wear concealer, £18.50, followed by Laura Mercier Secret Brightening powder, £18.50, around the eyes.  These products should both eliminate panda eyes ever occurring but pop them in your handbag just in case!

  • Lipstick on teeth

The old trick of popping your finger in your mouth and pulling it out as you make an ‘o’    shape with your lips is a foolproof way to ensure that any excess lipstick wont transfer onto your teeth. Blotting your lipstick with a tissue also helps.

  • Chipped nail

Carry your nail varnish and a nail file with you for emergency touch ups.

  • Flushed cheeks, blushing

If you’re prone to redness – be it a naturally ruddy complexion or a tendency to go red when nervous – try applying Clinique’s redness solutions urgent relief cream, £24.00, which will give instant results. If you don’t want to disturb your makeup, sweep over some Clinique Redness Solutions instant relief pressed mineral powder, £24.00, which will work wonders.

  • Shine and sweat

If your prone to shine, sweat and an oily complexion, have a compact powder handy that is designed for your skin type such as Estee Lauder Aeromatte Ultraluscent pressed powder, £25.00, which will take away shine without making you look too powdery or overly made up.

  • Tired eyes

Carry a pale eye pencil like Mac’s Eye Kohl in ‘I get no nick’ £13.00 – a pale, champagne coloured shimmery pencil, which will instantly make you look more awake when applied to the inner rim of the eyes.
